Basic Safety training refresher for helicopter crew incl. the use of HABD (FSC122)

Target GroupCivil crew/SAR-service who needs to stay offshore while in service.

Objective(JAR-OPS3/EASA)
Participants must acquire knowledge of preparations for an emergency landing on water, as well as be able to evacuate efficiently and independently from a helicopter both above and below water. Participants must be able to:

  • Evacuate from a helicopter under water both with and without the use of HABD.
  • Arrange for and carry out life-saving first aid, as well as being able to extinguish/fight minor fires on board the helicopter.

  • Lead the evacuation of passengers and crew to the fleet from an emergency landing helicopter.

(NOROG)

  • Evacuate independently from a helicopter using breathing apparatus (pax).

  • Practicing life-saving first aid, carrying out simple forms of firefighting, as well as mastering staying at sea and using rescue equipment in accordance with the NOROG professional plan.

Course ContentsTheory:

  • Preparations for emergency landing for crew and pax.
  • The helicopter’s emergency systems and equipment.

  • Procedures for evacuation.
  • Sea rescue and use of rescue equipment.

Practical:

  • Organized evacuation from helicopter to fleet.
  • Water acclimatization exercises in shallow water with and without HABD.
  • Life-saving first aid with CPR.
  • Stay at sea with a life jacket.

  • Underwater evacuation from helicopter simulator with breathing lung.
  • Underwater evacuation exercises from a helicopter simulator with and without the use of HABD.
  • Firefighting with hand extinguishers and house fire hose.
  • Use of rescue equipment.

PrerequisitesBasic Safety Training according to Norwegian Oil and Gas no older than 4 years, and training according to JAR-OPS 3/EASA no older than 3 years.

ExaminationA written test is completed before the practical training with HABD begins. Upon completion of the course, delegates are given a certificate according to JA OPS 3/EASA and NOROG. Delegates have to participate in all exercises to pass the course.
